  • Increase your skill set by immersing yourself in this course and learning a whole host of patchwork techniques whilst making this modern festive Christmas quilt.
  •  The step by step videos will help you progress steadily, at your own pace, to make sure you finish the quilt and feel super proud of yourself!
The Geometree Quilt was my 2023 block of the month (BOM) program that concluded in November 2023. It's now available right here as a stand alone self study course for those of you that missed out in 2023. Sign up now and you will get access to all the video classes on a wide variety of techniques, all the printable PDF instructions and templates to make this quilt.

The idea for this quilt design originated from my Glitter Ball quilt that I made a couple of years ago. I happened to see my sketch for it lying on the coffee table at a different angle and wondered about using a similar idea to create a Christmas tree shape. My daughter came up with the fabulous name for this quilt, such a fun play on words 'geometry - tree'!

There are six different row designs, the trunk column, star and pot, that I will show you how to piece. Together they will form an asymmetric Christmas Tree design.  You will learn various techniques during the program including:
  • Strip Piecing;
  • Inset seams (plus an FPP alternative!);
  • Drunkard's Path;
  • Inset Circles;
  • No-Fray Machine Applique;
  • and Foundation Paper Piecing.
I'll break it down into manageable steps for you so you don't get overwhelmed.  You'll be able to download instructions and watch video tutorials.  You'll also be able to ask me any questions as you work through the program inside the teaching portal.

  "I am a pretty regular BOMer so I have been exposed to lots of different teachers using different platforms and teaching techniques. I have to say that Jo's ... are the best of all of them. Apart from anything else it is amazing value for money. I can't imagine how many hours of work it must have taken her to put all that instruction together. The clarity of explanation of sometimes tricky techniques is wonderful. I'm sure everyone who has participated is a better quilter now than they were at the start. Thank-you Jo. I will definitely be back for the next one."

I've been teaching sewing, patchwork & quilting for over 10 years and I'm excited to help you.

I have absolutely LOVED helping every single one of my customers develop and improve their sewing, patchwork & quilting skills.  It's truly rewarding to see students progress and have 'lightbulb moments'.

I love teaching, breaking topics down into bite-sized chunks and making it achievable for all!  Since moving most of my teaching online it's been eye opening to realise that most people learn better this way: working at their own pace and having more time to practise; but still getting time with the teacher to ask questions.

What's Included in the Course?
  • Cutting instructions, diagrams, help & advice on choosing colours, colouring-in sheet and option to digitally colour it using popular solid fabric colours.
  • Block Piecing Instructions - these clear and easy to read sheets are downloadable and printable and contain lots of diagrams.
  • Video lessons for piecing the blocks for each row and introducing new techniques - you can watch these as many times as you need to, pressing pause and play as often as you like!
  • Immediate access to all instructions and video lessons so you can make it at your own pace, no need to wait each month like a traditional BOM.
  • List of Fabric Requirements (fabric NOT included).
  • There are two size options for the quilt: 60" x 80"; or 30" x 40".
  • Online Community for: sharing photos of your blocks, fabric pulls, finished quilt tops etc with other Sewing School members; asking for advice; sharing ideas about which fabrics to use; and being inspired and encouraged.
  • As this is a self study course there will be NO live sessions
NO FABRIC is included in this course. You'll need to purchase that separately.
Fabric Requirements
NOTE: Directional print fabrics are NOT recommended for this pattern. Solids, blends, and ditsy prints will work particularly well, and are recommended.    Cutting instructions assume a solid, blend or non-directional print fabric is being used. If using a printed fabric that has a specific orientation you may need to buy more fabric and cut the pieces differently (extra instructions will not be provided for this).

"I've done a few BOMs over the years and this is the third of Jo's courses I've been on during lockdowns. I'm really enjoying the Dashing Dutchman BOM - Jo's instructions and videos are brilliant. If I don't get it first time, the portal lets me revisit the lessons and ask questions. Thank you so much, Jo - you set a very high standard for online teaching."

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes we have.  This was the 2023 BOM that ran May-November 2023.  It was so popular I've brought it back as a self study course that people can join any time!

Once you’ve paid you’ll be asked to set up a log in.  Once that’s done you’ll be able to access the sewing school portal.  You’ll automatically be emailed a receipt and log in link to my Online Sewing School (Portal), so if you didn’t set up the log in when you paid, you’ll be able to do it using the link.   You'll then be able to access all of the teaching.  In the same email you’ll also see a link to the Facebook group that you can request to join.

Some security systems are causing a glitch in the system and not registering the click on the Buy button.  If this happens you have various options to buy the course: try buying on a different device; contact me to arrange a different payment method; go into your security (e.g. Kaspersky) and allow data collection for this website, that seems to resolve the issue.

Yes! Absolutely!  The video lessons and downloadable instructions will be hosted in my Online Sewing School Portal.  Plus we have the added bonus of a Community Page right here in the portal.   So you do not need a Facebook account to access tuition or support.  However we have found that lots of our customers like to use Facebook and so we also provide a Facebook group as well.

I wouldn't say it was aimed at absolute beginners, no.  However, a confident beginner who can sew an accurate scant quarter inch seam allowance should be fine.

No problem at all! This is a self study course, which means you can sew at your own pace.  I suggest a monthly schedule but you can choose a pace that suits you best.  The important thing is to remember that this is fun! It's your hobby and should never make you feel stressed out!  You'll be able to download the instructions sheets to keep forever.  I don't actually put a time limit on your access to the videos on my website in my stand alone courses. You will have access for as long as I have the website open. I have no plans to close the website as my business is going very well. If that ever did become a possibility, I have committed to giving customers 6 months notice.

No problem! Under each video tutorial there is a Discussion / Question box that you can type your question into.  Alternatively post your question in the Community Page or Facebook Group.  Either myself or one of our other lovely members is sure to be able to answer it for you. :-)

No. As this is a self study course there won't be any live sessions. All the teaching is via the pre-recorded video classes.  However I have included the recordings from the live sessions from when it was ran as a live block of the month program.

Fabric Requirements are specified in the table above

Sometimes the technology decides not to do what it should!  Very frustrating!  Sorry it's happened to you.  First of all, just double check your junk/spam folder.  Also make sure to add jo@thecraftynomad.co.uk to the Safe Sender list in your email settings.  Next go to the Register Page and sign up.  Once you are in, you'll be able to click on the My Courses tab at the top.  If your enrolment was processed then the course will show up in your courses.  If it's not there or you have problems registering then just drop me an email at jo@thecraftynomad.co.uk, it's most likely just been caused by a typo in your email address.

That isn't an option for this design.

It is not possible to issue refunds for digital products for immediate download and customers lose their 14 day right to cancel.  This is because it is not possible to recall digital content.  By continuing to purchase digital products the customer is acknowledging that they have waived that right.

"I have not been quilting for long or had many classes so was a bit apprehensive as to how I would get on but it’s coming together and it’s looking good! Jo is so clear with her teaching videos and instructions and breaks it down into easily followed instructions. So good to be able to view it over and over when you get to a bit you are unsure about. Jo is also very responsive when you have a problem. Highly recommended you won’t regret it and excellent value for money. Will definitely be joining the next one."
