Sunset at Sea Mini Quilt Course - starts 16th July 2024

Discover how to sew curved patchwork techniques with confidence and ease in this fun online course

I've had a few people miss the deadline for this!
So I've reopened it for a few days.
You'll have missed the first Live Welcome Session, but it's been recorded so you can catch up if you still want to join us. Cart closing on Saturday.

Sign up to the wait list below to find out as soon as it's available

I'll drop you an email when the course opens for enrolment.

Join this exciting course to become a curvy piecing ninja! Have you previously struggled with piecing curves? Maybe it made you curse! Or perhaps you were too intimidated to try? Then this is the class for you.

Take the class and you'll no longer be afraid of curvy piecing, or improv cutting. I'll help you through every step. Together we'll add these skills to your quilty toolbox so you'll feel capable of attempting any curvy patchwork project in the future! Make your very own Sunset at Sea Mini Quilt.

We'll start off by covering shallow improv curves to piece the sea and the sky. Then you'll learn how to sew inset shapes by sewing in the sunshine. Finally you'll learn how to make a porthole window frame.

You might choose to add that and finish your mini quilt as a square, or you might like to finish yours as a circle. If choosing that latter option, I'll show you how to add a modern facing to finish off the circular edge.

This class is for you if you fancy making a quilt project using some improv techniques. Maybe you always make traditional blocks with straight edges, and feel like now is the time to step outside that comfort zone and try some improv and curves. Maybe you LOVE improv and fancy making this design. Either way, scroll on down to get all the details.

Finish the quilt as a Square or a Circle
The picture above shows the option with the porthole window frame. Mine finished up at about 24" square.

The one below shows the quilt finished as a circle quilt. Mine finished up at around 17" in diameter. You'll be able to watch the video lessons for both options and learn all the skills, and then decide which one you'll make.
Take this course and you will learn:
  • How to sew Improv Curves
  • How to sew Inset Shapes
  • How to sew Porthole Windows
  • How to add facing to the edges of a circle quilt
  • You'll also practise arranging your fabrics into an order that has a lovely colour transition

I've been teaching sewing, patchwork & quilting for over 10 years and I'm excited to help you.

I have absolutely LOVED helping every single one of my customers develop and improve their sewing, patchwork & quilting skills.  It's truly rewarding to see students progress and have 'lightbulb moments'.

I love teaching, breaking topics down into bite-sized chunks and making it achievable for all!  Since moving most of my teaching online it's been eye opening to realise that most people learn better this way: working at their own pace and having more time to practise; but still getting time with the teacher to ask questions.

Sometimes the technology decides not to do what it should!  Very frustrating!  Sorry it's happened to you.  First of all, just double check your junk/spam folder.  Also make sure to add jo@thecraftynomad.co.uk to the Safe Sender list in your email settings.  Next go to the Register Page and sign up.  Once you are in, you'll be able to click on the My Courses tab at the top.  If your enrolment was processed then the class will show up in your courses.  If it's not there or you have problems registering then just drop me an email at jo@thecraftynomad.co.uk. Don't worry, we know people have commitments, or sometimes the time zone just doesn't work. That's why all our live sessions are recorded so you can catch up. It's also why all the actual teaching is via the pre-recorded lessons so you can watch them when it's convenient. It's also why we don't limit the time you have available to watch the class. And also why we have a place to ask questions in every single video lesson. So there are heaps of ways you can get feedback and ask questions.

If you are stuck on a bit that just isn't making sense to you, just pop a comment in the comment box under that lesson.  I'll get a notification of it and can pop you an answer in the comments.  Keeping it there also helps other people who might be stuck on the same bit. We also have live Zoom sessions you can attend to ask your questions.
