Bias by Design - Class Content

One of the trends that seemed to be prevalent at the 2025 Quilt Con Exhibition was 'Line Work'. Now there are lots of different techniques that you could use to form lines on your projects. One that was fairly evident amongst the competition quilts was the use of bias binding to create skinny lines and outlines on quilts. It creates a picture in a dramatic and clear way.

In this class we'll look at sources of inspiration and you will learn:

  • How to make bias binding in various sizes
  • How to create the design - continuous or not
  • Where to find design inspiration - including working from a photograph
  • Two ways of stitching the bias in place - by machine or by hand
  • How to deal with ends neatly
  • Tips on dealing with loose weave fabric

You can check out the full contents of the class below.

Course Curriculum

I've been teaching sewing, patchwork & quilting for over 10 years and I'm excited to help you.

I have absolutely LOVED helping every single one of my customers develop and improve their sewing, patchwork & quilting skills.  It's truly rewarding to see students progress and have 'lightbulb moments'.

I love teaching, breaking topics down into bite-sized chunks and making it achievable for all!  Since moving most of my teaching online it's been eye opening to realise that most people learn better this way: working at their own pace and having more time to practise; but still getting time with the teacher to ask questions.
