Ruler Quilting for Improvers with Angie Attwood - Class Content

If you’ve got to grips with the basics of Ruler Quilting, are comfortable with your set-up, and are able to use a simple ruler such as the Westalee 12" Arc, then you may well be ready to explore more rulers.

Angie’s favourite, and most used, template collection is the fantastic Westalee Sampler Set. Six super-versatile template shapes that work brilliantly together and individually, offering fantastic value for money and tons of creative scope.

In this class Angie will be using 5 of the 6 templates in this collection and exploring just some of the creative ways in which to use them. You will firstly stitch individual elements on a practice fat quarter before pulling together all your new skills to create a gorgeous mini whole cloth quilt.

If you’ve previously dabbled, need a refresher, would like to build more confidence and/or improve your technique, this is what Angie will be covering:

  • Detailed instruction for a selection of templates
  • Understanding template markings
  • How to use a crosshair ruler
  • Accurate marking-up for pattern rotations
  • How to create less obvious shapes and patterns from the same templates
  • Tips for holding each template and manoeuvring your quilt project
  • Muscle memory development and practice guidance
  • Culminating in a mini whole cloth quilt project

Whilst Angie demonstrates with the Westalee Quilting System, the guidance she gives will apply to most ruler quilting systems for domestic sewing machine.

Course Curriculum

I've been teaching sewing, patchwork & quilting for over 10 years and I'm excited to help you.

I have absolutely LOVED helping every single one of my customers develop and improve their sewing, patchwork & quilting skills.  It's truly rewarding to see students progress and have 'lightbulb moments'.

I love teaching, breaking topics down into bite-sized chunks and making it achievable for all!  Since moving most of my teaching online it's been eye opening to realise that most people learn better this way: working at their own pace and having more time to practise; but still getting time with the teacher to ask questions.
