Twists & Curves - Class Content

Adding depth and dimension to a quilted project is a really fun way of creating an interesting project. In this class I show you how to do that in the shape of twisted fabric. The texture it creates results is a wonderfully tactile project.

The first time I used this technique was when I designed the Twisty Trio cushion pattern which featured twists paired with straight cuts. In this class I show you how to add the twists to get the lovely texture, but we take it a step further by combining it with some shallow curves to give the piece a sense of movement with the curves.

Using this technique I’ve made a few different samples that demonstrate the versatility of the technique: some artwork; a kindle cover; and a clutch bag. You really can choose to incorporate this technique onto any project. There are plenty of tutorials in the Library section for different items.

In this class you will learn:

  • How to create texture by inserting folds of fabric
  • Two ways to twist the folds to create different looks
  • How to successfully cut and sew shallow improv curved seams

Course Curriculum

I've been teaching sewing, patchwork & quilting for over 10 years and I'm excited to help you.

I have absolutely LOVED helping every single one of my customers develop and improve their sewing, patchwork & quilting skills.  It's truly rewarding to see students progress and have 'lightbulb moments'.

I love teaching, breaking topics down into bite-sized chunks and making it achievable for all!  Since moving most of my teaching online it's been eye opening to realise that most people learn better this way: working at their own pace and having more time to practise; but still getting time with the teacher to ask questions.
