Have you ever admired beautiful wholecloth quilts and wondered how people had the time and patience to make them. Traditionally wholecloth quilts are hand quilted, the design formed by thread instead of the usual pieced blocks or applique. Wholecloth designs don't rely on cleverly pieced blocks or intricate applique, instead, there beauty is in the texture created by the quilting design. The subtle texture given by this technique can be breathtaking.
Now, I'm more of a machine quilter so I thought it would be fun to create a wholecloth project just using the machine. I've incorporated a letter / monogram into the projects and turned it into this Quilt Hive class: Wholecloth Machine Quilting with a Monogram.
You can choose between two projects (or make both!): a square panel that could be made into a cushion, a quilt, a wall-hanging, anything really; and a gorgeous Christmas stocking. The class includes all the letter templates, and some flowers too. I demonstrate lots of different quilting motifs and show you how to plan out your design and encourage you to consider how the pairing and placement of different designs can create fantastic impact.
In this class you will learn:
